Beaver Sleepover
Holmwood and Capel Beaver Colony visit Australia!!
There will be a Beaver Sleepover for our Beaver Colony.
At Bentley Copse Scout Campsite, Shere, GU5 9JH.
From 5pm Friday May 11th to 2pm Saturday May 12th.
The cost will be £15
We will be staying in The Barn, a large hall with good toilet and washing facilities and a large, well fitted kitchen. Beavers sleep on mattresses on the floor (such good fun!) and I expect there will be a lot of kangaroos and aboriginals involved…Maybe even a Barbie!
The cost of the night away covers accommodation, activities and meals (evening meal, breakfast and lunch.)
If you would like your Beaver to come on this exciting night away, please let me know the first week back after Easter, or if you would email me before then it would be helpful.
Also, if there are any parents who would like to come with us to cook for us you will be most welcome. (You don’t have to sleep on the floor!)
I hope lots of Beavers will want to come with us. Hope to hear from you soon.

Cubs April News
HOLMWOOD AND CAPEL CUB SCOUTS
Firstly, congratulations to our magnificent Swimarathon team. They swam 44 laps (89 lengths –the last one didn’t count) in 55 minutes. Thank you to everyone who sponsored them. They raised nearly £400 to be shared between our HQ and a charity of the swimmer’s choice.
And then, congratulations to Hamish who has achieved his Chief Scouts Silver Award. He is the Cub on the extreme right of the swimming picture.
Still on the swimming theme, we are still working on completing Swimmer Badges. They completed the short activities when we went swimming at Leatherhead but there is still the number of lengths necessary for each stage of the badge to test. Sarah will contact you with the arrangements.
On Saturday, 23 of our Cubs took part in the District Geocaching Day and gained their Map Readers Badge. Well done.
If you want to work with your Cub at home to pass an Activity Badge (The round ones that go on the left arm) that’s fine. The details can be found on www.scouts.org.uk. Search Cub Activity Badges. Good ones to do during the holidays are Home Help, Home safety, Animal Carer or Chef.
We will be doing Sports Enthusiast or Physical Recreation during next term.
At the first Cub meeting of next term on Thursday 19th April, we will have a wide game on the field. Please DO NOT WEAR YOUR UNIFORM!!! Keep it clean and tidy for St Georges day parade on Sunday 22 April. (Details below) We have decided to abandon the friendship knot on our scarves for the parade as our scarves are not really long enough. Mums- please untie them before you wash them, then iron flat. Roll them up along the seam until the triangle with Iggy on it is no deeper than 15 cms. Then press it flat. I will bring a supply of woggles with me on the day!!!
DISTRICT 6-A-SIDE FOOTBALL COMPETITION. Sunday 13th May in the afternoon. At Friends Life Sports Ground. Full details to follow. We can enter 2 teams or more I suppose. I’ll ask you if you want to play after Easter.
DISTRICT CUB CAMP FRIDAY 15TH TO SUNDAY 17TH JUNE 2012. At Walton Firs campsite. Cost £36. Full details after Easter but reserve the weekend now.
Have a good Easter. Baloo. Phone 01293 862213 Email barbara@halesbridge.demon.co.uk
Beavers April News
HOLMWOOD AND CAPEL BEAVER COLONY
Explorer Scouts from the Dorking District Explorer Scout Unit came to our Beaver Meeting and ran a Balloon Olympics and it was great fun. Since Christmas we have painted portraits of each other, begun to explore the woods and we hope you enjoyed your Mother’s Day treats.
Samuel Johnson has been awarded his Chief Scout’s Bronze award. The highest award a Beaver can get! He has now gone on to Cubs. Well done Samuel!
This term has been busy but the summer will be even busier. I have had replies from six beavers who want to go to Bazzaz. If you have forgotten to reply please email me before Easter so that I can book you a place. Thanks.
Please let me know the first week back if your Beaver wants to come to our Sleepover in May.
When you come to Beavers after Easter on Wednesday 18th April DO NOT WEAR YOUR UNIFORM. We will be outside and you need to keep your uniform clean and tidy for the St Georges Day Parade on Sunday 22nd April. Full details below. Here’s how to prepare your scarf. Wash it then iron flat. Roll it up along the seam until the triangle with Iggy on it is no deeper than 15 cms. Then press it flat. I will bring a supply of woggles with me on the day!!!
Have a good Easter. Barbara.
22nd April Beaver Scouts: St George’s Day Info
ST GEORGE’S DAY PARADE AND SERVICE
SUNDAY 22nd APRIL 2012
This is the only event of the year that you are expected to attend without fail. Please be there!
Meet in St Martins Walk Car Park at 2.30pm.
Parents, please follow instructions for parking your car – they try to keep cars and young people separate.
Report to Barbara Beaver when you arrive
Inspections at 2.35pm. Parents please move to a higher level so that we can be seen. Thanks.
Parade moves off at 3.00pm to go to The Dorking Halls for a service. This year, there will be some room in the Halls for parents. I’m not sure how they are working this. Listen on the day.
Please collect all Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the car park at the rear of The Dorking Halls at approximately 4.15pm.
When everyone comes out of the halls it is very crowded. We are hoping to gather all the Holmwood and Capel Group together to make it easier. Please do not take your Beaver without telling a leader.
Everyone is asked to wear perfect uniform. Well pressed scarves, shiny polished shoes. Your best smile. There are trophies to win! (coats may be worn if it is pouring with rain)
Beavers. Turquoise sweatshirt with badges. Navy blue activity trousers (without logos) or grey school trousers. Polished shoes
There will be a collection at the end of the Service.
THE PARADE NEEDS MARSHALS!
To ensure the safety of the parade we are asked to supply marshals to volunteer to walk on the offside of the parade. (Not necessarily with your own Group)
The police will not close the road, but there are ways of greatly reducing the traffic.
The job of the marshal is to keep the parade on the left hand side of the road. You are an extra pair of eyes.
If you would be willing to do this you should report to the Chief Marshal in St Martins Walk Car Park, adjacent to Marks and Spencer rear entrance, at 2.30, on the day. They will provide you with a hi-viz vest to wear.
Usually, marshals get to go on the balcony to join in with the service.
Any problems- just ask Barbara. 01293 862213 barbara@halesbridge.demon.co.uk
